While returning from a Florida vacation, we made a quick stop at a rest area north of Birmingham. While we were there, an impressive afternoon thunderstorm rolled in. There were some very impressive arcus clouds, but unfortunately, I didn't have a good camera with me. As the storm neared, we heard a distant tornado siren!! I'm not sure what the policy for sounding the siren was, but the storm seemed more outflow dominated, rather then tornadic. Still, it was scary. The storm brought some very heavy rain and some nice lightning before it was over. There were some very impressive mammatus clouds on the backside of the anvil.
